Questions and answers
What people ask before they hang their first greeting.
What is Greeting Place?
A place to leave holiday greetings on someone’s tree. Each greeting is a message and a decoration you choose, and its words stay sealed until the holiday it’s for.
What stays sealed, and when does it open?
A greeting’s message, its photo and any gift stay sealed until its holiday’s reveal time, in the tree owner’s time zone. Each holiday has its own. A greeting left after that time opens straight away.
Who can see my greeting?
Anyone with the link sees the tree and its decorations, but not who hung them. The tree’s owner sees who greeted them before the day, and reads what you wrote once it opens. You can read your own greeting whenever you’re signed in.
Does it cost anything?
Greeting is free: write your message and hang a free decoration. You can buy paid or premium decorations, a pack of decorations, a new tree style or a gift, but you never have to.
Will you message the person I greet?
No. We never contact anyone who hasn’t signed up. After you greet, we write a message with the link for you, and you send it yourself in the messenger you use.
What happens to the phone number or email I enter for someone?
It only finds their tree or starts one. We never use it to message them and never show it to anyone. If a tree is never claimed, its contact details are deleted after the season ends.
How do you keep greetings kind?
Every message, and every name, is checked for offensive content before it’s published. If a tree’s owner gets something they don’t want, they can hide it at once and report it, and someone on our side reviews it.
Can I change or delete a greeting?
Once a greeting is published, its message can’t be edited. Until its holiday arrives you can still upgrade its decoration or add a gift. The tree’s owner can hide any greeting from their tree.
Someone started a tree for me. What if I don’t want it?
You can remove it, and nobody is told. Once you’ve confirmed your contact, you can also stop anyone from starting a new tree for it.
How long does a tree stay online?
A claimed tree stays online for at least ten years. When the season ends it stops changing, and its owner can download it as a keepsake for free.
